Sri Veerama Kali Amman Temple Singapore
Established between 1855 and 1860, the Sri Veerama Kali Amman Temple is devoted to the goddess Kali, one of the most popular Hindu manifestations of the Great Goddess. Kali is said to grant material desires to those who make blood sacrifices in her name.
Located on Serangoon Road, it is one of Singapore's most busy temples. It is best to try and avoid visiting the temple on Tuesdays and Fridays, as these are the two Hindu Holy Days, and the temple will be packed with devotees during this time. The temple is also closed every day between 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm.
The temple was originally known as 'the temple at the village of the lime' because of the many lime kilns in the area. The main shrine of the temple holds a jet black statue of Kali, along with her sons Ganesha and Murugan. Also be sure to look up onto the roof of the building, where hundreds of the different manifestations of Kali can be seen.
